Merhi dominates race three at Spa
Roberto Merhi completed an impressive double by dominating the 40-minute British Formula 3 feature race at Spa. In similar fashion to his race one triumph, the Spaniard converted pole position into an immediate lead, before drawing inexorably away from the field.

Vettel says Red Bull needs to raise game
Sebastian Vettel believes his Red Bull Racing team will have to raise its game in order to fight with McLaren and Ferrari during this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix. The German, who endured his worst race of the season in the previous grand prix in Germany - where he was fourth - finished down in fifth position in today's second practice, over half a second behind pace-setter Lewis Hamilton.

Razia takes GP2 pole in Hungary
Luiz Razia edged Luca Filippi to take pole position for the first GP2 race of the weekend at the Hungaroring - a first for both Razia and his AirAsia team. The Brazilian was in contention for the lead places throughout the session, and he finally moved into top spot with three minutes remaining. Filippi (Coloni), who held top spot for more than 10 minutes before that, appeared on course to respond when he set the best time in the first sector on his final flying lap.

Ford's Ian Slater paid tribute to the people of Norway at the unveiling of Ford's new World Rally Championship on-event base ahead of this week's Rally Finland. In addition to the factory Ford Fiesta RS WRCs, M-Sport also runs private cars in the championship for Norwegian drivers Henning Solberg and Mads Ostberg and, with the series returning to a Nordic country for the second time this season, Slater talked about last week's bomb attack and shootings in Norway. Fabrizio Crestani snatched pole position for the opening Auto GP race of the weekend, taking it away from Sergei Afanasiev in the final minutes of qualifying at Oschersleben. Times had already dipped below the official lap record when most drivers pitted for fresh rubber halfway through the session, and with the track yielding increasing levels of grip Crestani took full advantage to grab the top spot four minutes from the end for the Lazarus team. Huff and Menu to race in Buenos Aires
WTCC leader Rob Huff and his Chevrolet team-mate Alain Menu will race in the Buenos Aires TC2000 event on August 21. In-season testing return edges closer
Formula 1 teams have edged closer an agreement for in-season testing to return in 2012, AUTOSPORT can reveal. FIA president Jean Todt said earlier this year that he was keen for the in-season testing ban to be lifted - as he thought it ridiculous that outfits could do no proper private running once the campaign got underway. Team principals discussed the idea of testing at a meeting of the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) at the Nurbugring on Saturday night, with AUTOSPORT understanding that major progress was made in finding a plan that received support from everyone.
Pineiro takes straightforward win
Ramon Pineiro took a straightforward win in the second Formula 2 race at Brands Hatch today. Starting alongside polesitter Mirko Borolotti, the Spaniard took the lead with a good move around the outside of Bortolotti's car at the first corner, and never looked seriously threatened thereafter. Bortolotti did well to avoid losing another spot to a strong challenge from race one winner Jack Clarke at the same time that Pineiro was driving past him, but he held the Briton off and the trio settled into the order that that would maintain for the rest of the race

Heidfeld to stick with forward exhaust
Renault has reverted to using its forward facing exhaust layout on Nick Heidfeld's car for the remainder of the German Grand Prix weekend, despite some encouraging results from a new rear design in Friday practice. As AUTOSPORT revealed, Renault wanted to experiment with a Red Bull Racing-style rearward exhaust configuration to see if it would make its blown diffuser more effective and deliver better lap times. FIA confirms 15,000rpm rev limit
The FIA has confirmed that a 15,000rpm rev limit will be imposed on Formula 1 engines from 2014 onwards. Teams will switch from the current 2.4-litre naturally-aspirated V8s to V6 1.6-litre turbos in 2014. However, there had been concerns that the originally-planned rev limit of 12,000 rpm would detract from the spectacle.

Dani Pedrosa admitted his surprise after taking a hard-fought victory at the German Grand Prix on only his third race back from injury. Parr: Diffuser row not bad for the sport
Williams chairman Adam Parr believes controversies like the one over the blown diffuser rules only increase the interest in Formula 1. The British Grand Prix was somewhat overshadowed by the row over the rules on diffusers, with the teams eventually agreeing to return to the original regulations as established before the Silverstone race. Although the controversy was criticised by senior F1 figures who believed it was hurting Formula 1's image, Parr denied it was bad for the sport.

Silverstone plans major upgrade
Silverstone bosses hope to sign off plans for a major redevelopment plan of the home of the British Grand Prix on Friday, as they continue a push to find investors. With the second phase of Silverstone's redevelopment - focused around the new �28 million 'wing' pits and paddock complex - now complete, attention is shifting to a wider update that will include hotels, a new kart track, music arenas, car showrooms and experience centres. The board of Silverstone Circuit hopes to approve the scheme at a meeting ahead of the British Grand Prix, before it is then sent to the local authorities over the next few weeks for approval.

Drivers split over Kentucky?s bumps
A number of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers have called for a repave of Kentucky Speedway as the bumpy track has proved a challenge for many on the category's first visit. Renault is considering abandoning its forward-facing exhaust concept in the wake of the clampdown on blown diffuser use, AUTOSPORT has learned. The Enstone-based outfit is unsure about how big an impact the ban on off-throttle use of blown diffusers will have on its car - with the R31 having been built around the forward exhaust concept. But amid worries the regulation clarification could dramatically hurt its form, Renault has designed and built a more traditional rearward exhaust layout - which it tried out during a recent straight-line test at Duxford.
Alonso: Crunch weekend for title hopes
Fernando Alonso thinks that any hope of stopping Sebastian Vettel romping away to his second world championship this year will be all but over after the British Grand Prix, unless his Ferrari team or McLaren show they have made a major step forward with their cars. Although Sebastian Vettel is well clear at the front of the championship table, and currently holds a comfortable 77-point advantage over nearest challengers Jenson Button and Mark Webber, rivals still believe that there remains the possibility to turn the situation around in the second half of the year.
