The organisers of Rally Argentina have been fined $5,000 for an irregularity in the road book for the event. The stewards of the event received a protest from the Ford team in relation to a junction towards the end of the El Condor stage. The junction was a traffic roundabout.

Fernandes to discuss Caterham F1 future
Team Lotus boss Tony Fernandes says his outfit will soon add more sponsors and work out how to incorporate Caterham into his Formula 1 plans, now that the Lotus naming row has been resolved. The High Court delivered its verdict on the Lotus naming issue on Friday - when Mr Justice Peter Smith declared that Team Lotus was allowed to keep its name and use the Lotus chassis moniker in F1. That decision has been welcomed by Fernandes, who says that the ending of uncertainty about his future plans means he can now start working out how best to integrate his Team Lotus and Caterham interests.

Newsham eyes good points with STR
British Touring Car racer Dave Newsham believes he can fight strongly for points after his first test in the Special Tuning Racing SEAT Leon today. McLaren duo: 2011 rules great for F1
McLaren duo Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton say that critics complaining about there being too much overtaking in Formula 1 should back off in their downbeat assessment of the sport. The new DRS, the return of KERS and Pirelli's rubber have all contributed to a much more exciting F1 in 2011, and that has helped produce races with more overtaking moves than have been seen for many years.

Servia sure of very strong race
Oriol Servia says he is very confident for the Indianapolis 500 after putting his Newman/Haas car on the front row - as he had suspected qualifying would be tough for the team. The Spaniard is extremely upbeat about his race pace, but did not believe he would be in the fight for pole. McLarens, Webber under investigation
Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, Mark Webber and Jaimie Alguersuari are under investigation following the Spanish Grand Prix, having failed to slow down for yellow flags. The FIA made the announcement after the race, where Hamilton finished in second, Button in third, Webber in fourth and Alguersuari in 16th. Although the FIA did not specify at which point of the race they ignored the yellow flags, it is believed it happened when Lotus driver Heikki Kovalainen crashed out with 17 laps to go

Todt pushing ahead with 2013 engines
FIA president Jean Todt has told engine manufacturers that there will be no delay to his plans to introduce smaller turbocharged power-units in 2013 - although there may be room for some compromise in allowing teams to continue using the current V8s for an extra year. Todt met with representatives of the teams and engine makers in the Barcelona paddock on Saturday to engage in discussions about progress towards the new 1.6-litre units that are in the rules for 2013. With sources suggesting that Cosworth, Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari wrote a joint letter to Todt to indicate their concerns about pushing ahead with the 2013 rules, there have been questions raised about whether the sport can continue with the plan

Teams warned over diffusers protests
The FIA has warned teams running with off-throttle blown diffusers at the Spanish Grand Prix that there is a risk of them being subject to a protest this weekend. Although motor racing's governing body decided to hold back on a move to immediately outlaw teams from pumping gases through their blown diffusers when drivers were off the throttle, it has not wavered from its belief that the practice is against the regulations.

Formula 1's competitive order at the front of the field could be thrown on its head in this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix with the FIA having made a major change to the exhaust blown diffuser regulations, AUTOSPORT has learned. With the design and execution of blown diffusers being viewed as a key area of the 2011 development race, teams have been pushing hard with their concepts to try and eek out any competitive advantage they can. Ricciardo stripped of front row spot
Daniel Ricciardo has been stripped of his front row grid position for the opening Formula Renault 3.5 race at Monza. The Australian was excluded from the results because of a loose-fitting bolt on his ISR car that caused the side-skirt to work loose. Spengler on pole again in Holland
Bruno Spengler made it two pole positions from two DTM races in 2011 as he topped qualifying at Zandvoort. The HWA Mercedes driver had not been quickest in any of the first three parts of qualifying, but dug deep when he needed to in Q4 and produced a 1m31.805s that would not be beaten. At the time of Spengler going top, his team-mate Jamie Green was the only man still to complete his single Q4 lap, but the Briton, who had been in the top two in every part of qualifying, did not quite have the speed to challenge and wound up 0.135s adrift of Spengler's time.

Felipe Nasr produced a stunning late lap to top the British Formula 3 qualifying session at Snetterton this morning. The Brazilian admitted to "not getting my lap together" on his first set of tyres, but put that right on his second set to knock Carlin team-mate Kevin Magnussen off the top spot by over half a second. Button expects swift McLaren reaction
Jenson Button is optimistic his McLaren team will return to fighting near the top of the field in Spain following a disappointing outing in Turkey. Button finished in sixth position in the Istanbul race, with team-mate Lewis Hamilton down in fourth just two weeks after having won in China. Button, however, is confident McLaren will bounce back right away and will get its latest updates working properly at Barcelona.

Loeb leading into final day in Italy
Sebastien Loeb is looking secure in the lead of the Rally d'Italia, having kept his rivals comfortably at bay through a second day of running first on the road. Red Bull Racing's qualifying advantage could be helped by 'elaborate' engine mapping that helps make its blown diffuser more effective over a single lap. Reindler, Owen escape serious injury
V8 Supercar drivers Karl Reindler and Steve Owen were fortunate to escape serious injuries in a huge startline accident in race two at Barbagallo. Reindler stalled his Brad Jones Racing Holden on the grid and was powerless to prevent Owen from ploughing into the back of him at 90mph and causing his car to burst into flames. The 37G accident left Reindler with superficial burns to his hands and face.

HRT has set its sights on overhauling nearest competitor Virgin Racing at this weekend's Turkish Grand Prix on the back of a series of updates planned for its car. Technical chief Geoff Willis has been working hard on delivering improvements to the F111, which the team plans to verify in Friday practice at Istanbul. Matt Neal was fastest in the second British Touring Car free practice session at Thruxton this afternoon. Neal's Honda Racing Civic set a best of 1m18.154s in the second part of the session, which had been red-flagged when Frank Wrathall's Dynojet Toyota Avensis pulled off.
