Vettel: Staff stability key for new deal
Sebastian Vettel says that Red Bull Racing securing the future of key team personnel like Adrian Newey was vital for him electing to remain at the outfit for the next few years. The world champion announced on the eve of this season that he had extended his contract until the end of 2014 - as part of a series of moves that included around 50 senior personnel at the outfit also signing new contracts. In an interview with Italian magazine Autosprint, Vettel confirmed that having the commitment of key staff ? including Newey ? played a vital role in his decision to remain on board
McLaren says spot-on strategy vital
McLaren believes that ironing out strategy mistakes is going to be just as important as bringing improvements to its car in its bid to beat Red Bull Racing to the world title this year. With McLaren working flat out to deliver the car upgrades that it feels it needs to get on even-terms with Red Bull Racing in qualifying, the team is also aware that a quick car is no use if errors are made in tyre tactics. And there was no better proof of that than in China last weekend when Sebastian Vettel failed to convert his dominant pole position performance into a race win after he stuck to a two-stop strategy.

Felipe Nasr and Lucas Foresti locked out the front row and the two pole positions in qualifying for the second round of British Formula 3 at Oulton Park. Late improvements from the two Brazilians denied T-Sport's Menasheh Idafar what would have been a sensational double pole position result from a hectic qualifying session. Huff leads Chevrolet podium sweep
Rob Huff led from start to finish to spearhead a Chevrolet 1-2-3 in the opening World Touring Car Championship race at Zolder today. Huff capitalised on his pole position to cross the line ahead of team-mate Alain Menu, who had started alongside him on the front row, while reigning world champion Yvan Muller produced a neat overtaking move at the hairpin to deny Gabriele Tarquini a place on the podium a few laps before the end. Ferrari sees no quick fix for car woes
Ferrari does not expect a quick fix to its ongoing car woes, with the team admitting that it still does not have answers for the wind tunnel/track correlation issues that are the root of its problems. The Maranello-based outfit has been baffled about why some development updates fitted to its car since the final pre-season test have not produced the increase in downforce that wind tunnel figures suggest they should. Investigations will continue at Maranello this week to address the issue - and until the team has answers it makes it hard for it to design news parts for the car that can bring it the downforce that it requires to match Red Bull Racing and McLaren.

Horner: Two-stop was right strategy
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner admitted that his team opted for a two-stop strategy in an attempt to outfox McLaren's Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, and that had Sebastian Vettel matched their three-stop plan he would not have been able to bring himself into play. The world champion made a poor start from pole position and ran third initially, which is when Red Bull decided to run Vettel on two-stops, and though this put the German in the lead for most of the race his worn tyres left him vulnerable to a successful attack from race-winner Hamilton in the closing stages.

Audi has revealed the colour schemes that its three new R18 TDIs will race in at Le Mans this year ahead of this weekend's pre-event test day. The three cars will again feature the marque's traditional black, red or yellow markings to differentiate them from a distance.

Huff takes Zolder WTCC pole
Rob Huff led a Chevrolet lockout of the front row in World Touring Car Championship qualifying at Zolder today. The Briton's 1m38.458s lap proved beyond the reach of his rivals, with team-mate Alain Menu best of the rest courtesy of a late flying lap that left him just 0.14s short. It could easily have been a Chevrolet 1-2-3 when reigning champion Yvan Muller set out on his final run with a clear track ahead, but his hopes were dashed when he ran wide at the exit of Turn 4

Monras grabs F2 race two pole
Formula 2 rookie Miki Monras will start the second race of the season from pole position after topping second qualifying at Silverstone. The GP3 convert's top spot came courtesy of a 1m49.934s lap - the fastest of the weekend so far - with two minutes of the half-hour session remaining and gave him the first F2 pole for a Spaniard since Andy Soucek at Oschersleben in 2009. With drivers able to use boost in the session (unlike in Q1), times were around a second quicker than they had been 24 hours earlier.

Rosberg takes only positives from China
Nico Rosberg says he and Mercedes GP should only feel happy with the step forward in form they showed in last weekend's Chinese Grand Prix - despite the disappointment of missing out on a podium finish. The German led for a number of laps in Shanghai ? and was in contention with the leading pack ? until he was forced to slow down in a bid to conserve fuel. That action was forced on him because his team had miscalculated the fuel consumption figures for the race, as it had not expected to run at such a fast pace in the grand prix itself.
